Study medicine abroad for free can mean two very different things. Some students mean free tuition or a scholarship; others mean getting help with the application without paying an agency fee. This article is about the second. Gateway Medics has helped students get into medical, dental, and veterinary programmes across Europe since 2016, and it doesn’t charge students for its support.
One thing worth clarifying first
If you searched for “study medicine abroad for free,” you’re probably looking for free tuition or a scholarship, and that’s a different thing to what this article covers. Tuition itself isn’t free at any of our partner universities. What’s free is our service, the guidance and application support that gets you there. Worth knowing the difference before you read on.
How does this work, if it’s free
The universities pay us, not you. When a student we’ve worked with enrols, the university pays Gateway Medics a fee for the placement. That’s the entire business model. There’s no application fee, no consultation charge, no package to buy before we’ll help you.
What “free” includes
This isn’t a free introductory call that leads into a paid package later. Free means:
- Guidance on which universities and countries fit your situation
- Help preparing your application and documents
- Support through entrance requirements, wherever they apply
- Answers to your actual questions, by email or call, for as long as you need them
Why this matters if you’re already stretched thin
Studying medicine abroad already comes with real costs, tuition, accommodation, travel, and for a lot of families, that’s stretched enough without an agency fee on top just to get advice. Paying hundreds or thousands of pounds before you’ve even confirmed a university is a real barrier for a lot of students who’d otherwise have a genuine shot at this.
What you should still watch for
Not every “free” claim in this space means the same thing. Worth asking directly:
- Is the consultation completely free, or does it lead into a required paid package?
- Are there hidden costs, document fees, translation charges, added later?
- Who’s paying the agency, you or the university?
If an agency can’t give you a straight answer to that last question, it’s worth asking why.
FAQ
Yes. Universities pay us when a student enrols. There’s no fee to students at any stage of the process.
Not from us. University-specific costs (tuition, entrance exam fees where applicable, accommodation) are separate and vary by university. Later on, after graduating, there are also standard costs tied to GMC registration if you’re planning to practise in the UK, but those apply to every international medical graduate, not something specific to studying through an agency.
Universities recruiting international students often work with agencies to reach students they wouldn’t otherwise, it’s a standard part of how international admissions works, not something unusual to Gateway Medics.
No. The support is the same regardless of how it’s funded, guidance on universities, help with your application, and support through entrance requirements where they apply.
